What Is a Dyslexia Assessment?

A dyslexia assessment is a detailed evaluation that helps identify whether a child has dyslexia and provides a better understanding of their learning strengths and challenges. It looks at areas such as reading, spelling, writing, memory, and processing skills to build a clear picture of how a child learns.

Following the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive report outlining the findings and providing practical recommendations to support your child’s learning at home and in school.

Who Is an Assessment Suitable For?

A dyslexia assessment may be suitable for children who:

Have difficulties with reading, spelling or writing.

Are not achieving as expected despite their ability and effort.

Find it difficult to remember information or follow instructions.

Lack confidence in literacy-based tasks.

Have a family history of dyslexia.

Benefits of Dyslexia Assessments

Understanding Your Child’s Needs

A dyslexia assessment provides a clear picture of your child’s strengths and areas of difficulty, helping to explain the challenges they may be experiencing with reading, writing, or spelling.

Clarity and Answers

Many families have concerns but aren’t sure why their child is struggling. An assessment can provide answers and help make sense of their learning experiences.

Increased Confidence and Self-Esteem

Understanding why learning feels difficult can be a huge relief for children. It helps them recognise that they are capable learners who learn differently.

Personalised Recommendations

Every child is unique. An assessment provides tailored advice and practical next steps based on your child’s individual learning profile.

Access to Appropriate Support

Assessment recommendations can help schools, tutors and families put the right support strategies in place to help your child succeed.

Identifying Strengths

Dyslexia assessments don’t just highlight challenges. They also identify strengths, talents and learning preferences that can be built upon.
