Access Arrangements Assessments help identify the reasonable adjustments a learner may be entitled to during examinations. These arrangements are designed to reduce the impact of specific learning difficulties or other barriers, ensuring learners can demonstrate their knowledge and skills fairly.
I am qualified to provide Exam Access Arrangements (EAA) assessments for learners who may already have a diagnostic report and require updated recommendations for examinations.
I work closely with schools and colleges to identify the areas requiring assessment and provide recommendations in line with current examination regulations.
This assessment does not provide a diagnosis but identifies the support that may be appropriate for external examinations such as the 11+, 13+, GCSEs and A Levels.
Benefits of an Access Arrangements Assessment
Fair Access to Examinations
Access arrangements help ensure that learners with identified difficulties are not disadvantaged during examinations and have the opportunity to demonstrate their true abilities.
Identification of Appropriate Support
The assessment identifies which reasonable adjustments may be suitable based on the learner’s profile, helping schools provide the most effective support during examinations.
Increased Confidence
Knowing that appropriate support is in place can reduce anxiety and help learners approach examinations with greater confidence and reassurance.
Compliance with Examination Regulations
Assessments are conducted in accordance with current examination board requirements, helping schools and families ensure that recommendations are evidence-based and appropriate.
Improved Examination Performance
By reducing unnecessary barriers, access arrangements can enable learners to work more effectively and demonstrate their knowledge more accurately under examination conditions.
Collaborative Approach
The assessment process involves close communication with schools, colleges and families to ensure recommendations reflect the learner’s needs and educational experience.
What Does the Assessment Involve?
The assessment may include a review of existing information, discussion with the school or college, and a series of standardised assessments that examine areas such as reading, writing, processing speed and working memory.
The findings are used to determine whether a learner meets the criteria for specific access arrangements in accordance with examination regulations.
Where a learner has received a diagnostic assessment, tutoring can be aligned with the recommendations provided within their report to ensure support is targeted and effective. Specialist dyslexia tutoring is most beneficial when informed by a clear understanding of an individual’s learning profile.
Who Is This Assessment For?
Access Arrangements Assessments may be appropriate for learners who:
Have a diagnosed specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia
Experience significant difficulties with reading or writing
Process information more slowly than their peers
Have existing support arrangements in school
Are preparing for public examinations and require updated evidence for examination boards
